Alison Fraser brings three decades of experience to the country’s grande dame of hospitality

This January was a particularly celebratory month for the Eastern & Oriental Hotel as it not only ushered in a new year but also welcomed a new General Manager and for the first time in its 134-year history, a female General Manager.

Alison Fraser is a well-known and respected figure in Malaysia’s hospitality industry, having chalked up three decades of experience in luxury and lifestyle hotels not only in Malaysia but also other parts of Asia as well as the Middle East and her native United Kingdom. She has held key positions at the InterContinental Hotels and Resorts, London and and general management positions with GMH Hotels and Resorts in Langkawi, Kuala Lumpur, and Bali. From 2006-2010, she helmed the Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH) in Kedah and Perlis as its President.

Alison is also as one of the partners and directors of Bon Ton Sdn Bhd, which owns and manages several lifestyle outlets and boutique properties in Penang and Langkawi, namely ChinaHouse, the uber-popular “Penang longest cafe”, boutique heritage hotel Straits Collection in George Town; Bon Ton Resort and Temple Tree Resort in Langkawi.

Five years ago, she set up BT Zinc Sdn Bhd, a partner of InVision Hospitality, a strategic hotel management company based in South East Asia. Under BT Zinc, she has successfully operated three properties in Malaysia.
